EU plans for VAT: Payers of social security contributions may face additional expenditure of €34 billion per annum
The European Commission is currently discussing the abolition of VAT exemption and reduced VAT rates that apply to the social security sector. Such a change would result in the German social insurance system having to shoulder additional expenditure of around €34 billion in 2014 alone.
