Prevention

The aim of prevention is to prevent occupational accidents, occupational diseases and work-related health hazards and ensure the delivery of effective first aid. Contemporary prevention pursues a holistic approach comprising measures in the fields of both occupational safety and health (OSH) and health protection.

In Germany this statutory mandate is successfully fulfilled by the German social accident insurance institutions for trade and industry and the public sector. The prevention work they carry out is designed to guarantee safety and health in commercial and public companies, children’s daycare facilities and educational institutions and amongst volunteers (the primary focus being members of volunteer fire brigades). Their duties include consulting and monitoring, research, initial and further training and the dissemination of information – all of which combine to provide a strong foundation for safety and health in companies, educational facilities and the field of road safety.

Expert committees at the DGUV

The core task of all expert committees is to form uniform, substantiated expert opinions on prevention issues which are binding on all German social accident insurance institutions.

Initial and further training

Initial and further training of in-plant target groups as well as the own prevention staff is a requirement for an effective OSH.

Joint German OSH Strategy (GDA)

The federal government, the state governments and the German social accident insurance institutions worked out a concerted concept under participation of all relevant OSH stakeholders, particularly incl. the social partners in the context of the Joint German OSH Strategy (GDA).

Prevention networks

The German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV) cooperates with various national, European and international institutions and organizations.

Campaigns and Events

Prevention campaigns as well as projects on special topics in the field of OSH and health protection support the achievement of prevention objectives, give information at events and bring up discussion.
